Getting to Siem Reap and Angkor

Landing in Bangkok at Sunset

Been travelling for three days. Boston to Siem Reap in Cambodia. About 8500 miles, three flights, about 19 hours of flying and three days overall.

I took the eastern route using Qatar Airlines through their hub in Do'Ha, and also because they had a reputation for spacious seating and good service.

First leg: Boston to Do'Ha was twelve hours. Flew an Airbus 350-900 which was roomy, clean and new. The flight was quite full, many families with new borns, but our middle seat was emply, so I had room to stretch. Plus, I upgraded to a premium coach. I was able to sleep for nearly nine hours.

Hamad International Airport in Do'Ha was a high end shopping mall. Very glitzy, but I was too tired to shop.

FOr a fee, Qatar had an agent meet me at arrival and help me navigate the erminal. She dissuaded me from going off site for a hotel and brougt me to the Oryx Hotel, which was full, so I spent the night in their Lounge. Very nice, but almost the price of a hotel, $75 for six hours. But sleeping on a chair is not a substitute for a bed, but at least there was non-stop food and drink.

The next morning an early flight from Do'Ha to Bangkok. Six hours on another Airbus, a 380-800. There is a second deck on this configuration, but I couldn't check it out. Arrived in Bangkok at sunset, which while we were descending was spectacular.

Over night at a local hotel. Then up at 4 AM to connect to Siem Reap.

It is less than an hour from Bangkok to Siem Reap. Total flying time from Boston To Siem Reap 19 hours.

At WMF Headquarters, they gave me a room and totally exhausted I fell asleep for six hours.
