What to do in retirement

Off on An Adventure

Shortly I am off on a trip of work and adventure to SE Asia.

Cambodia for four weeks, documenting work done at and a small temple, Prea Khan, near Angkor Watt.  Thailand and to Ayutthaya, the area of the old kingdom, where there will be preservation work.  All under the auspices of The World Monuments Fund.  Then for me time, off to an eight day meditation retreat in Nepal.

Sounds exciting and exotic, and I hope it will be.  Yet, we will not know till the trip unfolds.

The WMF sites in Cambodia and Thailand will be views into the past.  Both are sites of very old civilizations and I expect the sites will give some modern problems in preservation and lots of fascinating history of  the early civilizations.

Nepal is fascinating, a nation I never visited, and a retreat a purifying experience. For me, a proven non-stop talker, days of silent meditation seems an absurd challenge.  Among my friends, the pool is that I will be show the door in hours.  One true friend thinks I can make it because I am significantly stubborn.  Never shirking a challenge, we shall find my limits.
